Open heart watches appeared recently. It is a complication, or rather an aesthetic element of the watch, that truly found its place in the watchmaking market in the 2000s. Although it has existed for decades, the trend began to charm the general public through iconic brands. Initially, French brands such as "Lip" or Pierre Lanier brought this design back into fashion, but we can also see this type of watch appear on the other side of the world with the Japanese House Orient.
 
Since the launch of MaisonDuTemps, we have had two obsessions: launching a skeleton watch and also an open heart watch, with our sense of design. Indeed, the majority of open heart watches we can find on the market are generally so-called dress watches, with leather straps, small diameters, or even very classic designs. At MaisonDuTemps, we wanted to release a watch with a trendy complication and a modern design. That's why, when we launched our first open heart watch for men, the MTDelta Open Heart Green Dial, we made sure to imbue it with our style: strong lines, an octagonal bezel, a green dial offering variations in shades depending on the lighting. Evidently, we were right about the place of this model in our range, as it has been a resounding success since its release.
 
To give our customers the opportunity to acquire it, we have released it in a classic color: black, which gave life to the MTDelta Open Heart Black Dial.

The heart of the watch

 

As a reminder, an open heart watch is designed to reveal the heart of the watch, in this case, the balance wheel, which is the major part of the watch's escapement mechanism. The balance wheel is the component of the mechanism that regulates the watch's accuracy (whether it runs fast or slow); it also sets a very precise adjustment angle called the dead center. However, all of this is very technical, and without watchmaking training and/or practical experience, it is difficult to understand how it works.
So, for all watch enthusiasts, the rotating balance wheel of the mechanism means that the watch is working, and the more the balance wheel oscillates, the better it is for your watch's regulation.
 
Any mechanism with a beautiful aesthetic finish could be used in an open heart watch. At MaisonDuTemps, we chose to equip our MTDelta Open Heart with a Miyota mechanism. We chose the Miyota 82S5 movement for several reasons.
 
Firstly, although we wanted a watch adapted to our design, we wanted to respect one of the codes of open heart watches, which is to maintain a small diameter. Our MTDelta Open Heart has a diameter of 40mm. A small diameter means the mechanism must be proportionate to the size of the case.
 
Secondly, after selecting small-diameter movements, we looked for mechanisms that offered beautiful finishes. The Miyota 82S5 movement particularly appealed to us because it has very elegant finishes on its bridges on the back of the watch (on the automatic winding system) as well as on the part under the dial.
 
Finally, after completing our selection criteria for size and finishes, we checked the tolerances and technical criteria of the mechanism. Once this was done, we chose to equip all our watches from the MTDelta open heart Collection with these Miyota movements.
 
The advantage of this watch is that we made sure to give it a slim and elegant look that primarily appeals to men; however, this watch can also suit women's wrists. To date, we can affirm that this watch is a watch for men but also a watch that can suit women.

Buying a watch or a watch complication?

 

 For many enthusiasts, the question of buying a watch with a complication arises and almost becomes a mandatory condition. In our opinion, you should choose the watch that appeals to you in all aspects.
 
It's important to note that a watch with a complication potentially has a higher risk of breaking down or needing repairs, which makes it more fragile.
 
Furthermore, when designing a watch with a complication, we often have to reconsider our design and make compromises on certain visual elements of the watch. This means that finding a watch that has both the design you desire and all the technical complications you dream of can sometimes be incompatible.
 
However, it's good to know that the MTDelta Open Heart does not have a complication but rather a dial design, which is purely visual. This means that the watch will not have any particular fragility. This watch can therefore meet all your needs: it is beautiful and fashionable, with a pleasant visual detail that may raise questions about its utility, while being as robust as a classic watch.
